ICT tools for collecting, storing and sharing groundwater data & information
In a context of climate change and socio-economic evolution, groundwater is being increasingly relied upon. An invisible resource, groundwater is challenging to assess and to manage. According to groundwater governance principles, access to sufficient and reliable groundwater data to all stakeholders is a condition for implementing groundwater management and development strategies that guarantee a sustainable use of the resource. The International Groundwater Resources Assessment Centre (IGRAC) developed two online platforms to improve the accessibility of groundwater data and information at the regional and global scales: the Global Groundwater Information System (GGIS, https://ggis.un-igrac.org/ggis-viewer) and the Global Groundwater Monitoring Network (GGMN, https://ggmn.un-igrac.org/).
